A Constitution is not simply a document that sets out laws and institutions. It is a living framework that shapes how we understand rights, liberty, equality, justice and the relationship between citizens and the State. Yet, as India changes, so do the questions surrounding its constitutional promise. What does constitutional democracy mean in a time of rapid social, political and technological change? How do we protect the principles on which our Republic was built? And when the lived experience of citizens seems to diverge from the ideals enshrined in the Constitution, where does the responsibility lie? Are we failing the Constitution, or has the Constitution failed us? These are questions that demand more than easy answers. They call for an honest examination of our institutions, our politics, our rights and our responsibilities as citizens. At the 17th K. M. Bashir Memorial Lecture, Dushyant Dave, Senior Advocate (Retd.), Supreme Court of India, explore this provocative and timely question and a special address by Adv. Fathima Thahiliya, Member, Kerala Legislative Assembly. #DushyantDave #FathimaThahiliya #KMBashirMemorialLecture #Constitution #ConstitutionalDemocracy #VMFT
