ECI Row has intensified as political strategist and Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor has argued that simply replacing Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar would not bring fundamental change to India’s election system. Kishor has called for greater transparency and suggested measures including machine-readable electoral rolls, faster publication of Form 17 details and changes in the process of appointing Election Commissioners. His remarks come amid a wider political debate over the Election Commission, Special Intensive Revision and the functioning of the poll panel. The Indian Express has reported that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi recorded objections on several issues, while the ECI has said differing views are part of normal deliberation and that decisions taken over the past year were unanimous.
