In January 2026, the CDC approved a revised childhood immunization schedule without the usual vote by its expert advisory committee. Recommendations for hepatitis A, meningococcal ACWY, RSV, rotavirus, and influenza moved away from routine vaccination for all children, and the HPV series was reduced to a single dose. The American Academy of Pediatrics and other groups sued. In March 2026, a federal court in Massachusetts stayed the new schedule and the appointments of thirteen advisory committee members, and the government appealed.
In this episode of Lexcura Clinical Insights, Michelle Carroll, Founder and Chief Clinical Strategist of Lexcura Summit, explains what changed and why. She sets out the administration's reasons and the medical community's objections side by side. Then she turns to the legal questions: how competing national schedules complicate the standard of care, why documenting shared clinical decision-making matters more than ever, and whether these vaccines still qualify for the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program. She also covers insurance coverage, school requirements that now differ from state to state, and what attorneys should look for in the medical record.
