There are some things we carry for a very long time.
A hurtful word.
A betrayal.
A disappointment.
A relationship that ended without the answers we needed.
Someone who never apologized.
Sometimes we call these things memories.
But sometimes… memories have weight.
In this episode of Come Sit for a While, we explore the ancient Greek word ἀφίημι — aphiēmi, a word often translated as forgive, but one that can also carry the beautiful sense of release, letting go, sending away, or leaving behind.
What if forgiveness isn't about pretending the hurt didn't happen?
What if it isn't about saying what happened was okay?
What if forgiveness is learning to stop carrying the debt?
Jesus placed forgiveness right in the middle of the prayer He taught His disciples:
"Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors."
And He spoke about forgiveness again and again—connecting it with prayer, mercy, and our relationship with the Father.
In this video, we'll slow down and look more closely at the ancient words aphiēmi, opheilēmata (debts), and opheiletai (those who owe).
And we'll hear the story of a servant whose enormous debt was released… only for him to refuse to release a much smaller debt owed to him.
But this isn't only a study of ancient words.
It's an invitation to look inside our own backpack.
What stones are you carrying?
Hurt.
Anger.
Betrayal.
Regret.
Disappointment.
The apology that never came.
The explanation you may never receive.
Perhaps forgiveness doesn't happen all at once.
Perhaps sometimes it happens one stone at a time.
And perhaps today there is just one stone you're ready to place into the Father's hands.
You don't have to forget.
You don't have to pretend.
You don't have to deny what happened.
You can simply begin with:
"Father… I don't know how to release this completely. But I want to. Please help me."
Come sit for a while.
Let's explore this ancient word together—and perhaps discover what it means to walk forward with a lighter heart.

If this video speaks to something in your own journey, I hope you'll take a quiet moment afterward to ask:
Who is still in my backpack?
Whose debt am I still carrying?
What stone am I ready to place in the Father's hands?
Sometimes the journey begins simply by opening our hands.
