How much protein do we actually need? Does eating more protein always mean more muscle? Is there really a 30–40 g protein limit per meal, and can a high-protein diet damage your kidneys?
In this video, we break down the science of protein—from digestion and amino-acid metabolism to muscle protein synthesis and what happens when protein intake exceeds the body’s immediate needs.
We cover the 0.8 g/kg reference intake, evidence around ~1.6 g/kg/day for maximizing resistance-training gains, why ~2.2 g/kg/day is sometimes used as a practical upper target, and what happens to excess amino acids through urea production, oxidation, gluconeogenesis and other metabolic pathways.
We also examine the famous 25 g vs 100 g protein study, the myth that protein above 30–40 g in one meal is simply wasted, and what human research actually tells us about high-protein diets, GFR and kidney health.
