KERALA TO LADAKH BY CAR! The Ultimate Family Road Expedition | Ep. 11

Welcome to Episode 11 of our All-India Family Road Expedition from Kerala to Ladakh! Today is easily one of the most adventurous, nail-biting, and stunning days of our entire journey as we leave Kashmir behind and enter the rugged terrain of Ladakh. We start our morning at 9:30 AM from Hotel Eston Garden in Ganderbal after a light breakfast of rusk, bread & jam and milk. After stocking up on essentials like snacks, extra milk, and bread from a local shop, we head straight toward Sonamarg. The route is incredibly beautiful, leading us to a mind-blowing viewpoint just before the Sonamarg Tunnel. While the landscape was stunning, we also shared an honest, raw review of our experience with the aggressive local sellers, photographers, and guides here—a crucial warning for anyone planning a trip. After crossing the tunnel and exploring the Sonamarg market, we buy chicken and fresh vegetables. Following a long hunt, we find the perfect hidden spot to set up our travel kitchen—right under a bridge! Together with our friend Mushtaq and his family, we cook up a delicious, steaming meal of Ghee Rice and Chicken Curry. Then comes the ultimate test: the mighty Zojila Pass. As we climb, we spot our very first patch of snow! But the treacherous roads throw a massive challenge at us—our car gets stuck in a deep, rushing water crossing. Thankfully, having a convoy partner pays off. Mushtaq jumps in instantly, guiding us wheel-by-wheel to safely navigate the rocks without hitting the car's underbody. After a victorious push through the pass, we head toward Kargil, reaching the iconic Kargil War Memorial at 7:00 PM. Even though it was closing time, the guards kindly let us step inside the entrance gate for a quick 5 minutes to pay our respects. By 9:30 PM, we finally rolled into Kargil. Exhausted and late, we opt out of a long hotel hunt and check into a basic local lodge for just ₹2000 for three rooms. We wrap up our intense day eating our pre-cooked dinner right in the room.
