How Robots Were Born! The History of Robots for Kids | From a Robot Knight to Robots on Mars

How were ROBOTS born? Jump in the robo time machine with Mike and Lily, from Leonardo da Vinci's robot knight to robots on Mars! Meet The Writer (a 250-year-old machine that still writes), the play that gave us the word ROBOT, Elektro the giant gold robot who blew up balloons, Unimate (the first factory robot), Shakey (the first robot that could think), the Sojourner rover bouncing onto Mars in airbags, the AIBO robot puppy, ASIMO, robot vacuums (and the cats who ride them!), robot dogs, parkour and backflips, a robot dance party and Ingenuity, the first helicopter on another planet. Learn what makes a robot (sense, think, act), play Robot or Not, and cheer for robot races using real speeds. Starts with a race: can YOU beat a robot? Find out at the end! Ends with a quiz. Every picture is an original cartoon. 00:00 Can You Beat a Robot? 00:11 Welcome! 00:37 What Is a Robot? 01:21 1495: Leonardo's Robot Knight 01:58 1774: The Robot That Writes 02:37 1920: The Word Robot 03:11 1939: Elektro the Robot 03:56 1961: The First Factory Robot 04:53 1966: Shakey, the Thinking Robot 05:29 1997: A Robot on Mars 06:05 1999: The Robot Puppy 06:39 2000: ASIMO Walks 07:31 2002: Robot Vacuums 08:13 Game: Robot or Not? 08:59 Today: Amazing Robots 11:06 The Grand Final 11:45 Quiz Time! 12:40 Goodbye!
