AMÉLIE LAURENCE FORTIN / RÉCITS D'UNE COURTE NUIT 02 mars - 14 mai 2023 [https://bit.ly/3zmufIz] Il y a douze ans, Amélie Laurence Fortin réalisait une expédition de kayak en mer impliquant la traversée de 3000 kilomètres d’eau glacée de l’Alaska à Vancouver. Les constatations et les traces laissées par cette aventure extrême auront été un moteur pour sa création et sont à la source de réflexions qui l’habitent depuis : comment traduire le lien que l’humain entretient avec les forces fabuleuses du monde ? Comment réagit-on devant l’immensité, face à ce qui nous dépasse ? Récits d’une courte nuit survient à la fin de ce cycle de travail qui interroge la manière dont nous nous positionnons par rapport aux ordres de grandeurs, en choisissant trois grands axes au cœur du devenir de l’humanité. Autour de la question de l’exploration, de celle du territoire et celle du temps, Amélie Laurence Fortin présente une triade d’œuvres réalisée in situ pour l’espace de la Grande salle de la Fonderie Darling en imbriquant ses récits à l’imposante architecture du lieu. Élaborée par l’artiste dans une séquence où l’espace dicte d’abord le choix des matériaux, et dans laquelle ces derniers appellent ensuite la construction de récits, cette exposition est en constante mouvance entre différentes temporalités et des directions divergentes. Le mot « récits » s’écrit intentionnellement au pluriel ; il reflète une conception non-linéaire de réalités multiples et l’idée que l’Histoire se vit en simultanéité. En anglais, le choix du terme « yarn » joue avec le sens des mots : il renvoie à la fois à l'idée de récit et à celle d’un fil conducteur reliant toutes les histoires entre elles. — AMÉLIE LAURENCE FORTIN / YARN OF A SHORT NIGHT March 02 - May 14 2023 [https://bit.ly/3KkynPz] Twelve years ago, Amélie Laurence Fortin went on a sea kayaking expedition, crossing 3000 kilometres of icy water from Alaska to Vancouver. Her observations and the traces left by this extreme adventure have become a source of reflection and a driving force for her creative work ever since: How might we translate the connection that humans have with the fabulous forces of the world? How do we react to the vastness and face things greater than ourselves? Yarn of a Short Night marks the end of a cycle of work that examines the way in which we position ourselves in relation to orders of magnitude. By focusing on three major axes that are central to human development, namely the notions of exploration, territory, and time, Amélie Laurence Fortin presents a triad of site-specific works in Fonderie Darling’s Main Hall, interweaving her narratives with the imposing architecture of the site. Developed by the artist in a sequence in which the space first dictated the choice of materials and then the materials led to the construction of stories, the exhibition constantly moves between different temporalities and diverging directions. In French, the word “récits” is intentionally plural; it reflects a non-linear concept of multiple realities and the idea that History is experienced simultaneously.
