Well folks what an afternoon and evening this was! This has to be my joint top favorite area in the Lake District to shoot (joint top with Wastwater!). You can shoot it any time of the year, and at anytime of the day and still get some amazing images. I can't believe that this small fell (Side Pike) didn't make it into Wainwrights books as the 360 degree views it provides are some of the best the lake district has to offer. I will admit at this point, and its not shown in the video, but I hurt myself climbing down from this fell after I finished shooting. With all of the weight I was carrying, Nikon D850, 14-24mm F2.8, 24-70 F2.8 lenses, drone, tripod, water, flask, filters poles etc I lost my footing and twisted my knee pretty badly (leg twisted and folded underneath me) and with this weight on top I ended up in a pretty bad spot. I wasnt sure if I was actually going to make it back down but luckily I did. What I am trying to say is that if you go up here, travel as light as you can and be really careful, there is no or very limited phone signal. The light on this shoot was awesome and had it not been for the dangers associated with the descent I would have stuck around for some astro but made the decision pretty early on the climb up that this was just going to be too dangerous to try and get down with a head torch. There isn't really a defined path and you have to just find your own way! What I love about the location is though that you have so many options here without having to even get to the top which I hope comes accross in this vlog, being honest I think from a photography point of view it is better a bit lower down as there is more opportunity for foreground interest. When you are in this area everyone heads for the classic shot with Blea Tarn in the foreground and the Langdales in the background (I have done this so many times!!) and whilst you have to have that in the portfolio there is so much more to go at if you can resist that temptation! In the video I mention that I have used DXO Photolab 10 to edit the shots. I honestly cannot see a difference in the quality between that and lightroom and like the fact that it is not a subscription based service. What I must say though is that I used Photoshop to blend the focus stacked images. Due to time I couldn't work out how to, or even if, you can stack images in Photolab 10 which is something I am going to be speaking with them about. Honestly it is not a deal breaker as there is other softare out there that you can use to blend focus stacked images. I (once I am more comfortable with it) will show you the work flow on Photolab 10 as it is slightly different to Lightroom if people are interested as I do think it is a serious option for us photographers to break the Adobe subscription cycle! Any way enough rambling, onwards and upwards and I will catch you on the next one! A #nikonphotography #dxo #photography
