PlayStation has cancelled Hideo Kojima's Physint, and Xbox is now publishing it. Both announcements went out minutes apart on September 9th, and the two statements do not line up. Sony says it made the difficult decision to step away from the collaboration. Kojima says he was told in mid-June that the project was being cancelled, and that Kojima Productions then spent three months looking for a new partner. In this video I go through what both companies actually said, the January 2024 State of Play reveal alongside Hermen Hulst, the Columbia Pictures and film-and-TV angle that Xbox has now picked up, and Kojima's own New Year's message confirming 2026 was meant to be the year of casting, scanning and performance capture on Physint. I also look at the possible reasons behind Sony's decision, including its record games profit alongside the Bungie impairment, the Bluepoint Games closure, and reports that Sony is pulling its big single-player titles back from PC.
