Captain Logan's Fancy - Theme and Variations on Moreton Bay by Colin Brumby (Hereford Cathedral)

One of the larger (and rare) organ works by an Australia composer, this piece is written by Colin Brumby in 1988 and is based upon the colonial folksong “Moreton Bay.” The infamous Moreton Bay penal settlement was established in 1824 for the isolation of convicts who committed further crimes after being sent to New South Wales. No treatment, however inhumane, was judged too harsh and the villain of the song, Captain Patrick Logan, was especially notorious for the brutality of his regime. Brumby has given each of the variations a title drawn from the lyrics of the song and the variations allow the different colours, tones and expressions of the Organ to be demonstrated.
