It’s easy to have an opinion about Jesus. Maybe you see Him as a good teacher, a healer, or someone who makes the world a better place. But Jesus doesn’t leave the question there. He turns to His disciples and asks, “But you…who do YOU say that I am?
In this message, we explore:
Why you can be sincere about Jesus and still be completely wrong about who He is
What Peter’s confession reveals about Jesus as the Messiah and Son of God
Why Jesus changes Simon’s name to Peter and calls ordinary people to be part of His church
What it means to be given the “keys” of the kingdom and represent Jesus to the world
Why following Jesus is more than believing the right things—it means surrendering your life to Him
How Jesus’ church is called to stand on the truth about who He is and bring His gospel into places of darkness
Big Idea: Jesus is not asking for your opinion about Him. He is asking for your surrender to Him.
Peter didn’t have everything figured out, but he knew who Jesus was: the Messiah, the Son of the living God. That confession changed the direction of his life—and Jesus invites every one of us to answer the same question.
Scripture: Matthew 16:13–20
Challenge: Stand on the Rock. Write down your answer to the question, “Who do you say Jesus is?” Then ask yourself: If I really believe this about Jesus, what needs to change about the way I live?
Whether you're skeptical, have grown up around Christianity, or already follow Jesus, don't settle for simply having an opinion about Him. Look at Jesus for who He actually is—and decide what you will do with Him.
