Join me on an epic journey through the Forest of Dean that starts in Hillersland, England, and takes us through the woodland to the majestic Everard Oak, in Monmouthshire, Wales. This is a beautiful, meditative early Autumn walk through mixed and pine woods, past ancient rock formations and there's even a detour down to a secluded section of the River Wye. Birdsong all around, squirrels, deer and an abundance of ferns, moss and, of course, trees of every description. Some even grow out of the rocks, as you'll see. The Everard Oak was designated 30 years ago to commemorate the work of John Everard, a surveyor and verderer of The Forest of Dean. As you'll see when we arrive, it towers majestically over the surrounding forest, which at this point slopes down into the Wye Valley. There are a few quirks to this video. In the Wye Valley section there's a bit of vehicle noise, which hopefully isn't too disruptive to your peace. Most of the walk sticks to the Wysis Way, but at times I did take wrong turns (ie get lost) and there are sections that go off trail too. It was a hilly and therefore strenuous journey, reflected in the fact that sometimes you'll hear my breathing. I marked the the point at which I crossed the border from England into Wales with a 360 in the forest. This is my longest video so far - hope you enjoy it. Walking the Shire shares beautiful, scenic POV walks in the countryside that inspired JRR Tolkien. But I'm not obsessed with Tolkien or the lore of Middle Earth. I just like connecting with nature in landscape so beautiful it inspired some of the world's greatest fantasy novels. I'll take you on woodland walks, explore the hillsides and waterways, and try to share some of the wonderful scenery on offer. To begin with, I'm focusing on the Cotswolds, in England, which are on my doorstep, but might venture further afield into other parts of the West Country, the Midlands and South Wales. Let me know what you think, and if there's a walk you'd like me to consider filming, let me know and I'll look into it. Hope you find the videos calming, relaxing and meditative. I've made them with that in mind. And they're all natural - no AI, no fancy editing, no music, no talking... just walking.
