California’s weather is about to get weird. The storms and snow that just hit the state are being followed by a Santa Ana wind event, and that turn changes the whole picture.
A Santa Ana is dry, fast-moving air pushed from the interior toward the coast. After a wet system leaves the mountains, the downslope wind dries the air out and drives it through the canyons and passes toward the coast, where humidity drops and gusts build.
In this video:
✅ Why the storms and snow came first, and what they leave behind
✅ How Santa Ana winds form and where the pressure setup comes from
✅ Which counties see the strongest gusts and the lowest humidity
✅ Why the fire risk rises even after rain and snow
✅ How fast the pattern flips from wet to dry
✅ What to watch in the next forecasts and warnings
The storm wets the ground. The wind takes it back.
⚠️ Dry wind after wet weather still means red flag conditions. Keep anything that can spark away from grass and brush.
