Canadian Oil Drillers Just Built the World's First Closed-Loop Geothermal Plant; Germany Signed Up

On December 4, 2025, a sealed loop of pipe drilled about 4.5 km into hot rock under Geretsried, Germany, sent its first electricity into the grid. It was the first power ever made from closed-loop multilateral wells, and the company behind it, Eavor Technologies, comes from Calgary.
