Day 5 launches from Matteson, IL and rides into Chicago through the Southland which was 27 miles and took almost an hour and a half. There was no traffic to speak of it was just the No Highways, No Tolls. No Ferries rules that took us on all secondary roads. The only delay was Stop Signs and traffic lights. I passed through towns like Homewood, Hazel Crest, Harvey, Phoenix, Riverdale and on into Chicago proper. Passing through a mix of residential and commercial areas seeing some of the industry firsthand during the ride. I drove directly to the RT 66 Begins Here sign. I was run over twice by trains - watch the video, you'll see! I met a couple fellow travelers for RT 66 and got "directions" and conversation from another in Joliet. All in all, a good day. Typical, I didn't see everything I wanted to, and it was mostly down to locations being under construction gearing up for the anniversary that was not completed yet. Or at a minimum made it difficult to know where to enter from.
