Can a scrap collection business help Pakistani Hindu refugee families build a stable livelihood and a better future for their children? During its recent visit to Hanumangarh, Rajasthan, the Hindu Samman Foundation (HSF) team met Pakistani Hindu families who had left Delhi in search of better living conditions and opportunities to earn a living. Some of these families previously sold kachoris and mobile covers. Today, they are exploring a new opportunity through scrap collection and recycling — a business that could help them become more financially independent. ♻️ But they need our support to take the next step. 🚲 What Do These Families Need? The families have explained that they need practical assistance to expand their businesses and improve their earnings. ✅ Six modified motorcycle loader vehicles — Each vehicle costs approximately ₹70,000–₹75,000, according to the families. ✅ Working capital — To help them purchase and collect larger quantities of scrap. ✅ Storage facilities — So they can store scrap and sell it in bulk when suitable opportunities arise. ✅ Access to bigger buyers — Connecting directly with larger wholesalers and factories could help them explore better selling prices and improve their profit margins. ❤️ Why Is Owning a Vehicle Important? Currently, some families rent motorcycle loader vehicles for around ₹200 per day. Owning their own vehicle could help them save this daily rental expense while making it easier to collect and transport scrap. With adequate working capital and storage space, they could also explore purchasing larger quantities and selling directly to bigger buyers. The goal is not simply to provide a vehicle.
