Yes It Is - Isolated Basic Track and Overdubs

After the huge success of “This Boy", John Lennon was not entirely satisfied with the result and decided to revisit the idea. In early 1965, The Beatles returned to the studio to work on John’s new composition. During the session, the group recorded a total of 14 takes of the song: Ringo on drums, Paul on bass, John on nylon-string acoustic guitar (previously the Gibson Jumbo) and George Harrison on his Gretsch Tennessean. George’s guitar is already part of this basic track, including the 'Volumen Foot Pedal'. The basic track was complete: The Beatles and George Martin spent around three hours working on the vocals. John, Paul and George recorded the three vocal parts together. Once those vocals had been recorded, John re-recorded another lead vocal over the original take, thereby doubling his part to give the choruses more punch. George added another guitar part, whilst Paul played Ringo’s ride cymbal to reinforce the muted snare drum beat on the basic track (or to give it a more 1950s-style feel).
