The Ninth Judicial Circuit Historical Society, the Western Montana Bar Association, and the Federal Bar Association presented a panel discussion on District of Montana Judge George Bourquin, who protected individual rights jeopardized during the sedition prosecutions in Montana in the World War I era. The program took place at the Alexander Blewett III School of Law at the University of Montana during the same week the law school hosted Ninth Circuit oral arguments. The panel featured Clem Work, journalism professor and author of Darkest Before Dawn: Sedition and Free Speech in the American West; Constance Van Kley, First Amendment scholar and law professor; and Jeff Wiltse, Montana historian and Chair of the History Department at the University of Montana. Ninth Circuit Judge Anthony Johnstone moderated.
