The front of the bottle says natural. Here's what apple juice brands are legally allowed to leave out, and what the record shows.
🔍 We investigated eleven apple juice brands: Juicy Juice, Mott's, Urban Meadow, Clover Valley, Solevita, Nature's Nectar, Great Value, Weis, Market Basket, Wellsley Farms and Martinelli's. We examined recalls and enforcement records, published third-party lab testing, price per unit against private label, and sourcing and country-of-origin labelling.
✅ We then reveal two, and why there's no third: Tree Top, owned by roughly a thousand apple and pear growers in the Northwest, and Knouse Foods, the grower-owned co-op behind Musselman's that says it presses American-grown apples fresh year-round.
🛒 You'll also learn a five-second check to do at the shelf that shows how long a juice's supply chain is, and what it can't tell you.
⚠️ Findings reflect publicly available labels, regulatory records and testing available at the time of production, and may refer to specific lots or variants rather than a brand as a whole. Recipes change, so check current packaging.
