The Trust of the Tithe | Malachi 3:8–12 | April 26, 2026 Stewardship over Ownership Series Sermon by Rev. Larry Davis | Second Baptist Church Amarillo, TX Tithing is more than a financial practice. It is a declaration of trust. When we give God the first portion of what He has entrusted to us, we acknowledge that He is our source, our provider, and the One who owns it all. In Malachi 3, God calls His people to examine their faithfulness and return to Him. The tithe was never meant to be simply an obligation. It demonstrated trust, obedience, and recognition that everything ultimately comes from the Lord. This passage reveals the principle of the tithe, the priority of the tithe, and the promise connected to faithful obedience. God calls His people to bring the whole tithe and trust Him with what comes next. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. Malachi 3:10 NKJV The tithe declares that our security does not rest in what we keep, but in the God who provides. It reminds us that stewardship begins with recognizing that everything in our hands first came from His. God promises provision, protection, and a testimony that ultimately brings praise to His name. This message challenges us to consider a simple but important question. Do we truly trust God as our source, or are we depending more heavily upon what we can hold in our own hands? Faithful stewardship says, Lord, everything I have belongs to You, and I trust You with it. Follow us and stay connected for more sermons and encouragement.
