She waited a thousand years to repay a single kindness — and lost everything for it. 🐍 Myth Strings 神弦 presents: THE LEGEND OF THE WHITE SNAKE 白蛇傳 ━━━ THE STORY ━━━ On Mount Emei, a white serpent cultivated for a thousand years until she could take the form of a woman — Bai Suzhen, beautiful, gentle, and quietly powerful. With her went Xiaoqing, a green serpent who was both her maid and her dearest friend. Bai Suzhen came down to the mortal world for one reason only: to repay a debt of kindness from a former life. At West Lake in Hangzhou, in the soft rain of spring, a shy young scholar named Xu Xian offered the two women his paper umbrella. In that moment she knew him — this was the man who had saved her, lifetimes ago. They married, and opened a small apothecary, where she healed the sick with her medicine and her magic and asked nothing in return. All of Hangzhou came to love them. But at Jinshan Temple, the monk Fahai saw through her human form. To him, a demon and a mortal could never share a life. On the Duanwu festival he told Xu Xian to give his wife realgar wine. Weakened by pregnancy, she could not hold her human shape — and before her husband's eyes she became a great white serpent. The terror stopped his heart. He died. She did not weep for long. She flew to the celestial peaks of Kunlun, fought the immortals who guarded the herb of life, and would not yield until she was allowed to carry it home. She laid it to his lips, and he opened his eyes. Yet Fahai took him away to the temple, and she came to demand her husband back. When the monk refused, she raised the waters of the great river until they rose against the mountain itself — the flooding of Jinshan. But she was carrying a child, and her strength failed her. She lost. She lived only long enough to give birth to a son and press him into his father's arms. Then Fahai sealed her beneath the Leifeng Pagoda, beside the same lake where she had once stood in the rain. Xiaoqing escaped, and vanished into the mountains to cultivate for years, waiting. She came back stronger. This time the monk could not stand against her. And at the foot of the pagoda, a grown son knelt weeping for the mother he had never met — devotion so pure that heaven itself answered. The tower cracked, and broke, and fell. She rose from the light, and her family was waiting. ━━━━━━━━━━ 🎵 Original instrumental score — erhu, dizi, guzheng, pipa and cinematic orchestra.
