Mrs W and I are training for a walking event in September 2026, and the Chiltern Hills around Ivinghoe offer exactly the kind of terrain we need, gentle slopes, steep climbs, big views, and plenty of elevation. For this session, I put together a 6‑mile figure‑of‑eight route with just under 1,000 feet of ascent, perfect for building strength and stamina. My walk begins in Ivinghoe village, heading out across the open fields towards Pitstone Windmill before rising gradually to Pitstone Hill car park. From here, the landscape opens into classic chalk grassland as I drop down into Incombe Hole, ready for the toughest climb of the day, the steep ascent of Steps Hill. It’s a heart‑pumping climb, and I pause halfway to enjoy the sweeping views across the valley. At the top, the ridge path leads me over Ivinghoe Hills and onwards to Ivinghoe Beacon, where I launch the drone to capture the ridgelines and rolling fields from above. After landing the drone, I descend towards Gallows Hills, then follow the farm tracks along the base of the slopes before looping back for a second, more forgiving ascent of Steps Hill, this time from the reverse side. I then descend again with brilliant views, straight down into Incombe Hole. The final stretch follows Middle Path back into Ivinghoe, completing a rewarding training loop in one of the most scenic corners of the Chilterns. Filmed in 4K on a warm cloudy day in July 2026. 🥾 What to Expect on This Walk • Ivinghoe - A peaceful start through a classic Chiltern village • Pitstone Windmill fields - Open farmland and wide views • Gentle climb to Pitstone Hill - Chalk grassland and steady elevation • Descent into Incombe Hole - A dramatic chalk valley with sweeping scenery • Steep ascent of Steps Hill - Heart‑pumping climb with rewarding mid‑way views • Ridge path to Ivinghoe Hills - Open ridgelines and long horizons • Summit of Ivinghoe Beacon - Panoramic views and drone launch point • Descent towards Gallows Hills - Rolling slopes and quiet farm tracks • Reverse climb of Steps Hill- A gentler ascent with views into Incombe Hole • Middle Path return - A steady descent back into Ivinghoe 🎞️ This video is available in three immersive formats, each shaped for a different sensory journey.
