ORANGE COUNTY FIRE NOT OVER YET! Norte Fire 5% Contained as First Families Head Home The Santa Ana winds behind the Norte Fire in Orange County, California, dropped sharply overnight into Saturday, October 17, and by Saturday morning Cal Fire listed the fire at 570 acres and 5% contained, with six homes damaged or destroyed. At 12:18 PM on Saturday officials lifted the evacuation orders for northern San Clemente and part of San Juan Capistrano, while four zones stayed under orders because of the active fire line, the wind and a heat advisory. Across Southern California the Henderson Fire on Camp Pendleton grew to 3,132 acres and the Bryson Fire in Malibu reached 52% containment, as forecasters expect onshore winds, a big cooldown and a chance of rain in the days ahead. In this video, we examine what comes next for the Norte Fire, the Santa Ana winds easing, the first containment figure, the evacuation orders lifted in northern San Clemente and part of San Juan Capistrano, the four zones still under orders and the roads still closed, the homes families will return to, the damage count still to come, the crews hunting hot spots for days, the two injured firefighters, the heat advisory and red flag warning, the onshore winds, cooldown and rain in the forecast, the power outages, the Henderson Fire on Camp Pendleton and the Bryson Fire in Malibu, the power shutoffs across the region, the first Santa Ana wind event of the season, the federal fire grant, the shelters, the investigation into the cause and how to get ready for the next fire.
