LONG BEACH HOMES RED TAGGED! Waves Wreck the Boardwalk as Rachel Floods Baja (Latest Updates) Days after surf from Tropical Storm Rachel battered Southern California, the City of Long Beach lists eight buildings holding thirteen homes as red tagged on the Long Beach Peninsula, with one more yellow tagged, after waves breached the boardwalk and bulkhead along Seaside Walk. The city now puts boardwalk and bulkhead repairs at $1.5 million to $3.6 million and is starting an $11.4 million project to bring 415,000 cubic yards of sand to the peninsula, while a beach hazards statement runs through Thursday. In Baja California, floodwater swamped Ensenada and swept through a farming valley just south of the city, where 32 people were rescued by helicopter, three people were still reported missing on Tuesday, and farm groups estimate early losses near $50 million. In this video, we examine the waves that breached the Long Beach boardwalk and bulkhead, the eight buildings and thirteen homes red tagged along Seaside Walk, the Sunday high tide that pushed the sea over the wall again, the evacuation order and warnings, the floods in Ensenada and the farm valley south of the city, the helicopter rescues and the search, the early farm losses and jobs at risk, the evacuations in Tijuana, the path the storm took and the record rain it brought to Las Vegas, the flooded streets of Newport Beach and the Balboa Peninsula, damage in Malibu, the sandbags, the repair bill and the sand rescue for the peninsula, the Santa Ana winds and heat that come next, and how to stay safe. EWN (Extreme Weather Network) covers floods, hurricanes and other extreme weather around the world as it develops, with real footage and verified facts from official sources and trusted news outlets.
