Download Symmetry and start doing 20 push ups: 👉🏼 https://symmetry.club/go/greengains Twenty push-ups a day. Less than a minute, on any floor. Does it actually do anything? We put it under the scan, from the first rep to ten years down the road, and look at what the studies found it does to your chest, your arms, your shoulders and your heart, what it doesn't do, and the one thing that decides if your twenty still work after the first month. • Rep 1: a force plate study measured it. In a regular push-up your hands carry about 64% of your body weight, around 115 lb at 180 lb. Your chest and triceps do most of the pushing, and a small extra push at the top, the push-up plus, makes the serratus work hardest of all • Set 1: the last hard reps recruit your largest muscle fibres, the ones with the most room to grow. If rep twenty is a real effort, twenty is a good number for you • The next morning: the soreness comes from tiny damage in the muscle, mostly in the lowering half of each rep. Do them again and it drops sharply • Week 2: most of the new strength comes from your nervous system. Muscle growth only takes the lead after three to five weeks • Week 4: push-ups and the bench press both made young men stronger on the bench in four weeks, but muscle thickness didn't change significantly in either group • Week 8: in a Japanese study, push-ups to failure grew the chest about 20% and the triceps about 10% in eight weeks, as much as the bench press group, and their bench went up about 7 lb without touching a bar • One year: that's over 7,000 push-ups. If you kept doing the same easy twenty, your body adapted months ago. If you kept making them harder, the gains keep coming, just slower. Bonus: in a big review of exercise trials, regular strength training lowered resting blood pressure by about 4 points • Ten years: firefighters who could do over 40 push-ups had 96% fewer heart events than men stuck under 10. It's a link, not proof. The benefit of strength training peaked at about 30 to 60 minutes a week, so twenty push-ups are a great start, not the whole plan • Is twenty the right number? No study has tested twenty a day. For a beginner it might be ten on your knees. For someone fit, twenty regular ones might be a warm-up Sources & Studies: https://rentry.co/7rso9in2 The plan: push-ups build muscle when the last reps are a real fight, not because of the number twenty. When twenty gets easy, don't jump to a hundred. Make each rep heavier: hands on a 2-foot box (about 40% of your body weight), on your knees (about 50%), a regular push-up (about 64%), feet up 1 foot (about 70%), feet up 2 feet (about 74%). Then lower for three seconds and pause at the bottom. When you can do twenty clean reps on one step, move up to the next, and add rows and squats for your back and legs. How many push-ups can you do in a row right now?
