Lagertha's Cry (Music Video) - Viking Music with Female Vocals | A Norse Lament for Ragnar

Viking music with female vocals. The official music video for "Lagertha's Cry" - track 1 of SHIELDMAIDEN, the third album by Viking Ash and the first with a voice on it. THE STORY Lagertha was a shieldmaiden of Norway, recorded by Saxo Grammaticus around the year 1200. Ragnar Lothbrok won her by killing the bear and the hound she kept at her door - and then, years later, put her aside to marry a king's daughter. He won that second wife by killing serpents that guarded her. He died in a snake pit in Northumbria. The sources close that circle themselves. When Ragnar was losing a battle in Denmark, Lagertha sailed to him with a hundred and twenty ships. Nobody asked her to. She was no longer his wife. And she was still not there at the end. THE LYRICS "You killed snakes to win her. Snakes had you in the end." - the whole tragedy in two lines, and both halves are in the sagas. "A hundred and twenty ships. I came anyway." - the number is Saxo's. She was divorced, uninvited, and she came regardless. That refusal is the song. "They will call this a cry. It was never a cry. It was an order." - the title turns over here. Grief that launches a fleet is not grief any more. Frame drum, tagelharpa, bowed lyre, bone flute and low Norse drone.
