What would the sky look like if Earth had rings like Saturn's? We borrow Saturn's rings, shrink them to Earth's size and go on a postcard tour: from Quito, where they're just a razor-thin line overhead, to Mexico City and Miami, where they arch across half the sky, to London, where they barely clear the rooftops, and Tromsø, where you'd see nothing at all. Then we look at night, the seasons, the shadow the rings would cast on the tropics every winter, what they'd mean for satellites and astronomers, and how long rings actually last. And the twist: a 2024 Monash University study suggests Earth may really have had a ring about 466 million years ago. Every sky view is computed from each city's latitude; our own calculations are flagged as such.
