If you’re frustrated with everyone lately, the irritation may be pointing toward an unmet need, an unspoken boundary, or something you’ve been asking yourself to tolerate for too long. Frustration isn't always something you need to calm down or get rid of. Sometimes it’s information. In this Worth Repeating episode of ‪@DontCutYourOwnBangs‬ therapist Danielle Ireland looks at what frustration can tell us about our relationships, needs, boundaries, and the ways we may be unintentionally abandoning ourselves while waiting for someone else to behave differently. Danielle works through two real-life examples: feeling trapped and irritated during a family trip, and dealing with repeated cancellations that left her feeling like her time wasn't being respected. The situations are different, but the question underneath both is the same: What is my frustration trying to tell me? Because there’s an important difference between: “This person needs to change so I can feel better.” and: “This feeling is giving me information. What can I do with it?” In this episode: Why you might feel frustrated even when “nothing is really wrong” How unmet needs can show up as irritation or resentment Why frustration doesn't automatically mean someone else is the problem How to separate what you can control from what you can't A simple I can / I want / I need / I will exercise for turning frustration into emotional clarity One of the biggest reminders from this conversation: If you want someone else to respect your time, start by asking whether you are respecting it yourself. You don't need to immediately fix the feeling. Feel it first. Then come back and ask: What is this trying to tell me?
