Motorcycle Adventure Through France 🇫🇷 | Exploring a Medieval Castle | Day 6

🇫🇷 Welcome to Day 6 of The French Adventure! After five days of riding through France on my Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro, alongside James on his KTM 790 Adventure, we'd finally reached our first proper rest day. No long journeys. No mountain passes. No hundreds of miles in the saddle. Just a relaxing day enjoying the beautiful Dordogne countryside. Or at least, that was the plan. Having arrived at our accommodation near Sarlat-la-Canéda the previous evening, we decided to take a short ride to the magnificent Château de Beynac, one of the Dordogne's most impressive medieval castles. Unfortunately, visiting the castle involves something I'd specifically hoped to avoid. Walking uphill. Quite a lot of it. And so began our supposedly relaxing day exploring a 12th-century fortress perched high above the River Dordogne. Along the way, we discover the castle's extraordinary history, explore its medieval halls, kitchens and courtyards, and enjoy some spectacular views across the valley towards neighbouring castles. We also investigate Richard the Lionheart's connection to the castle, consider the rather questionable health and safety standards of medieval architecture, and discover that James has a surprisingly theatrical side. And then there's the walk back down. Having decided to film the descent as a hyperlapse, I quickly discovered that maintaining a consistent walking pace was rather more demanding than expected. I haven't sweated that much since my wife discovered the receipts from my motorcycle-related purchases. Thankfully, the day eventually ended with some well-earned refreshments before returning to our accommodation at Les Chalets du Périgord. https://www.location-vacance-sarlat.c... With comfortable chalets, a heated indoor swimming pool and easy access to some of the Dordogne's most beautiful villages, it makes an excellent base for exploring the area.
