Good morning guys in this beautiful day!🙂Today we are in place I've never been before and also never heard before, I just randomly found this place on the map. So we are heading inland , away from ocean.
We are in Coruche, Portugal 🇵🇹
So, Coruche is a Portuguese town/village belonging to the district of Santarém, with about 9,000 inhabitants.
It is located plus-minus 80km from Lisbon.
It is also municipality, one of the largest in Portugal, with an area of 1,115.72 km² , but only 17,356 inhabitants subdivided into 6 parishes. And it also sits on the coast of Sorraia river.
Situated on the plain, in an area of the Ribatejo near the Alentejo, the town of Coruche is a peaceful place, with low white houses and calm vibe for those who want to relax and slow down.
Coruche is surrounded by fertile fields and thats why region is dominated by farming and horse-breeding. There are also huge areas of cork trees, from which the cork is extracted, of which Coruche is one of the main producers in the country.
Coruche also has various historical monuments such as the Corôa bridge (of Roman origin), the medieval aqueduct of Monte da Barca and various, mostly 17th century, churches.
Agolada and Monte da Barca are very cool leisure areas.
The Romans also left mark in the Sorraia valley , where they had settlement along the river between the 1st and 5th centuries .
Coruche also have national holiday or festival/celebration, not sure from information online. This festival happens from August 14 to the 18. Event is in honor of Nossa Senhora do Castelo ( Our Lady of the Castle).
So what do you think about Coruche? Let me know in the comments and subscribe, because we will visit all 308 municipalities in Portugal and not only Portugal. Yep, I have some surprises for you in comming months.
Stay tuned!!! 🙂
