Its Ours - Natosapi's 55th Anniversary Event Highlights

Highlights from Natosapi – Old Sun Community College's 55th Anniversary Celebration, held September 24–26, 2026 on Siksika Nation. This milestone event brought together Elders, leadership, students, and guests from across the Blackfoot Confederacy to mark 55 years since Siksika Nation took over administration of the college — a building that has now served as a place of learning longer than it ever operated as a residential school. Highlights include reflections from President Maria Big Snake, a keynote from acclaimed curator and author Dr. Gerald McMaster on his new book "Art, Truth, and Reconciliation," the gift of a buffalo robe from a sister tribal college to document the next 55 years of Natosapi's history, a rare and deeply moving surprise headdress ceremony honouring President Big Snake, and the official naming of the college's Indigenous Bachelor of Social Work program — given the Blackfoot name "Kamotahpihkaan" by Elder Herman Yellow Old Woman. A celebration of resilience, culture, and the community that continues to carry this place forward. Learn More: www.oldsuncommunitycollege.ca Filmed and edited by David Copithorne. www.dcfotofilm.com
