What does it mean to be perfect in God's eyes? And how can anyone claim to be perfect when we all fall short? These are some of the most important questions in the Christian faith, and the answers change everything about how we understand salvation, grace, and our identity in Christ. There are thousands of religions in the world, but when you look at them through the lens of Scripture, they all fall into just two categories. Every belief system either teaches that humans can achieve perfection through their own effort, or it teaches that perfection must come from God Himself. That single distinction separates biblical Christianity from every other religion on earth. The Greek word translated as perfect in the New Testament is teleos, meaning complete, mature, and brought to its intended end. This is not about flawless behavior. It is about being brought to completion in Christ. There is a critical difference between perfection in practice, which none of us have, and perfection in position, which every believer has been given through faith in Jesus. The Old Covenant, built on the law of Moses and repeated animal sacrifices, was never designed to permanently remove sin. Hebrews 10 describes it as a shadow of good things to come. Year after year, the same sacrifices reminded people of their failures without ever fully resolving them. But Jesus did not come to add another sacrifice to that cycle. He came to be the final, perfect sacrifice, fulfilling every prophecy and every promise that came before Him. Hebrews 10:10 says that God's will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once and for all. Not repeated. Not conditional. Not dependent on your next good deed. And through the New Covenant, God promises to remember our sins no more. If you have placed your faith in Jesus, here is who you are right now. You are holy. You are righteous. You are forgiven, once and for all. You are not defined by your past. You carry the same power that raised Christ from the dead, and nothing can separate you from the love of God. Perfection is not achieved. It is received. Thank you for joining us! We pray God encounters you wherever you're at. Subscribe to our channel to see when we go live and to see past sermons.
