Four new 2026 electric stoves, $529 to $4,299. What does the extra $3,770 actually buy you, and what does every maker leave out of the brochure? Prices read off each manufacturer's own US site on 30 Sep 2026. They change weekly. THE FOUR Amana AFCS2530T - $529. Coil burners. No convection. 1 year warranty. Samsung NSE70H63S - $1,199. Glass top, slide-in. The crossed-out $1,499 is labelled a "comp. value", not a former price. Fan convection, self-clean and steam clean. Whirlpool WSES4530TZ - $1,349. Glass top. "Boil 40% faster" - than its own 6-inch burner, per its own footnote. Fan convection, steam clean only. LG Signature LSIU6339XE - $4,299. Induction, 4,300 W biggest burner, true convection with a 2,500 W element, 2 years on functional parts. THE SCORE Price: Amana. Speed claims: LG. Oven: LG. Pans: Amana. When it breaks: LG. WHAT THE SPEED NUMBER REALLY IS Energy Star lists an average heat-up time per stove, but it stops the clock at 90 C, not boiling, heats a different amount of water on each burner size, and reporting it is optional. There is no speed requirement in the Energy Star stove spec at all. YOUR PANS Samsung's own manual on cast iron: "Not recommended for use on ceramic cooktops." Induction only heats pans a magnet sticks to. The coil stove takes almost anything. WHEN IT BREAKS Samsung's own parts store lists the cooktop assembly for this stove at $289.95. LG's parts store lists the induction coils at $143 to $214 each and the inverter board at $339. I could not find repair parts for the Whirlpool on Whirlpool's own site, and Amana's parts site blocked my check. THE $840 REBATE The federal cap is real, but it is income-limited and state-run, and DOE Program Notice 26-2 (effective 29 May 2026) removed fuel-switching - replacing a gas appliance with an electric one - from the program. A PROMISE KEPT Last week I said this episode would be dryers. Energy Star lists new 2026 dryers from nine brands. Leave out combos, laundry centers and compacts, and only one could be bought from its maker's own US site: LG's $1,599 Signature. So dryers wait until the shelves catch up. Sources: each maker's own spec sheet, owner's manual and warranty; the Energy Star Residential Electric Cooking Products dataset and V1.0 specification; 10 CFR 430 subpart B appendix I1; DOE Home Energy Rebates Program Notice 26-2; samsungparts.com and lgparts.com. I did not cook on these stoves. I read the manuals, spec sheets, warranty documents, the Energy Star data and the Department of Energy's notice, and priced everything on the makers' own sites.
