25 Things That Went Into a Kansas Farm Bed

In August of 2014, a truck brought a hospital bed into my front room for my husband, Glen, and the county nurse made it up with white sheets and a gray blanket. Then I did one thing to that bed she said she'd never seen in thirty years of nursing. I'm Hazel, I'm 84, and tonight I'm telling you twenty-five things that went into a bed on our Kansas wheat farm, from the fresh straw we stuffed in the ticks after every threshing to the summer nights the whole family slept in the yard. Stay for number one, because what I put on that hospital bed had been on our bed every night since 1960.
