Speaker: Dr Snehal Pinto Pereira Presentation: Sympercents: why is it worth your time? Bio: Snehal is a Lecturer in Population Health and Applied Statistics in the UCL Division of Surgery and Interventional Science. She is statistical epidemiologist by training and currently hold an MRC Career Development Award. Prior to this, at the UCL Institute of Child Health, she examined lifetime influences on adiposity and physical activity trajectories, health consequences of these trajectories and, long-term effects of early-life adversity. She has a BSc (Hons) in Actuarial Sciences, MSc in Medical Statistics and PhD in Epidemiology. Her current research focuses on two main areas: (i) understanding the impact of the changing burden of obesity across generations on physical functioning, and identifying whether dynamic health behaviours, such as physical activity, across the life-course, mediate these relationships, and (ii) understanding how specific child maltreatments (abuse and neglect) are related, via certain pathways, to outcomes in adulthood. Her research is underpinned by a strong methodological foundation that aims to make the best use of existing data resources and addresses public health needs with impact on national policy and practice.
