🎈 WATCH TO THE END TO FIND OUT HOW TO WIN A FREE, UNIQUE PRINT. Some artworks take days. Most take weeks. This one took more than five months. ‘Come Up For Air’ is a large-scale artwork featuring 25 miniature hot air balloons rising through layers of colour and texture. Taller than me, it became one of the most ambitious pieces I’ve made to date. In this film, I take you through the entire process of creating the artwork from start to finish. From the first ideas and planning, to building the composition, spreading paint across the canvas, and painting each of the miniature figures by hand. But making an artwork like this isn't just about painting. A big part of the process is figuring out how to make the ideas in my head physically possible. Sometimes that means inventing new tools or finding completely new ways to approach things. And then after months of work, comes one of the hardest parts - deciding when it's actually finished. There are always little details that could be added, changed or refined, and sometimes the final touches are what make the artwork feel complete. It’s a long process, and things almost always take longer than you think. There are distractions, setbacks and plenty of moments where you wonder how there can possibly be so much more to do. Five months of work eventually becomes a finished artwork, but the journey there is rarely as straightforward as it looks. It’s not a sprint. It’s a marathon. Sometimes you just have to keep going, one layer, one figure, one invention and one brushstroke at a time. This is the full journey of ‘Come Up For Air’
