I arranged to have a week off work to spend some time exploring Myall lakes, I mentioned it to the messabout coordinator Phil, and the planets aligned and it became a Wooden Boat Association Queensland messabout & camp week. We based ourselves at NRMA Myall Shores caravan park, this is a great spot to explore the lakes with all the amenities to make camping comfortable.
After a 7 hour drive I launched the boat at the dirt ramp within the park and anchored close to our campsite.
Sunday 16th March was the first sailing day just a nice day messing about in boats.
Monday 17th March we heard through the grape vine more members were arriving so we stayed sailing around the Bombah Brardwater.
Tuesday 18th March we met up with some Sydney Raid group but they had plans to sail the lower lake and we were going north to stay at Johnsons Beach.
Wednesday 19th Left Johnsons to have morning tea at Shelly Beach then wanted to head to Neranie campground and picnic area but found the weed too thick so the other 2 boats headed back to Shelly beach for lunch while I went to Russels Bay, The wind cam up very strong from the East so I hoisted sail in Russels bay and sailed to meet up with the others at Shelly beach, I thought we were done for the day but the decision was made to head back to Johnsons Beach.
Thursday 20th the weather came in after breakfast Dick & I decided to both motor back to Myall Shores under our boom tents, While Alex sailed all the way back.
Friday - for me was a day exploring the area, we caught the barge and drove to Hawkes nest and checked out all of the campgrounds along the way. We continued on to Tea Gardens for lunch and then headed back to camp via the highway,
Saturday 22nd Last day sailing we sailed to Rivermouth campground based on the bank of the Myall river only accessible by boat walking or bicycle, this was a great lunch stop.
Sunday head back home another 7 hours driving.
Thanks for watching
