To Make Moong Dal Khichdi
Green Moong Dal - 1/2 Cup
Basmati Rice - 1/2 Cup
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 Tsp
Salt - 1 Tsp
Ghee
Cumin Seeds - 1 Tsp
Ginger
Green Chilli - 2 Nos
Water
Method
To begin, soak ½ cup of split green gram and ½ cup of basmati rice. Wash both 2–3 times thoroughly and soak them in enough water for about 1 hour.
After an hour, transfer the soaked rice and dal into a pressure cooker. Add enough water to cover, ¼ tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp salt, and 1 tsp ghee. Close the lid, place the weight, and cook on medium flame for 4 whistles.
Once done, turn off the heat and allow the pressure to release naturally. Open the lid—you’ll see the dal and rice are perfectly cooked and soft.
Now in a pan, heat 1 tbsp ghee (you can also use oil, but ghee adds excellent flavor). Add 1 tsp cumin seeds, a small piece of chopped ginger, and 2 slit green chilies. Sauté for a few seconds.
Now add the cooked rice-dal mixture. Mix well.
If the khichdi is too thick, add some hot water and adjust the salt if needed. Mix until creamy.
Finally, garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
Serve hot with papad or pickle. It’s soft, wholesome, and super comforting!
