Why Only a Few Women Over 70 Can Get Up Off the Floor. Getting up off the floor after 70 is a lift, and strength training for women over 60 rarely trains the deep range it needs. Here’s a simple floor routine for women over 60 and women who lift: score yourself out of ten, then climb a three-rung get-up ladder. You may lift every week and still need a hand, a knee and the couch arm to get up. That isn’t age, and it isn’t only balance. Your squats and machines stop well above the bend the floor asks for. This video shows you why getting up clean is a strength and a skill, and how to score yourself with the sit-to-rise test researchers use. It gives you a three-rung ladder you can practice two days a week, plus two deep lifts, the goblet squat and the split squat, that build the strength underneath it. If you’re fit at 60 or past 70 and want to keep getting yourself up, on your own, start here.
