On the sixth day of Navratri, devotees worship Maa Katyayani, the warrior form of Goddess Durga. Born in the ashram of Sage Katyayana, she rides a lion, holds a gleaming sword and a lotus, and is honoured as the destroyer of the demon Mahishasura.
Katyayani Mantra and Shloka Jaap are chanted on the sixth day of Navratri. Her mantra is chanted 11 times at the start and end, with her dhyana shloka chanted 108 times (one full mala) in between.
Mantra

Meaning
"Om, I bow to Goddess Katyayani."
Shloka Lyrics
Chandrahasojjvala Kara
Shardula Vara Vahana
Katyayani Shubham Dadyad
Devi Danava Ghatini
Meaning
"Her hand gleaming with the Chandrahasa sword, riding the noble tiger, may Goddess Katyayani, destroyer of demons, grant us auspiciousness."
Why devotees chant this mantra
Chanting Maa Katyayani's mantra on the sixth day of Navratri is traditionally believed to bring courage, remove obstacles, and protect against negativity. She is also especially worshipped by those praying for a happy marriage, a tradition linked to the Gopis of Vrindavan, who observed the Katyayani Vrata. Completing 108 recitations, one full mala, is considered especially auspicious.
