This synth has a "tamagotchi" pet and it evolved to level 10 mid-performance 👾 Here's a new ambient dub track featuring a very special guest: the Gamma Mini Synth. I'd call this instrument a synth with a soul. It has a virtual pet that lives on the main screen and the more you play it, the more it evolves... but if you neglect it, it actually gets grumpy (I haven't experienced that haha). Because of the "pet" aspect, I put an old IKEA plush on my desk for company and the most amazing thing happened during this performance: I started at level 9 (you can still see it at 1:02) and right after adding the pad layer, the synth pet evolved to level 10 (unfortunately my left hand covered the transformation 🥲). To my surprise, the new alien pet looked similar to my plush - it has the same two separate eyes! But unlike my plush, which has 6 arms, the pet only has 2. I couldn't stop smiling when that happened. 😁 I find that every instrument inspires me differently, whether it's the layout, the portability, or the specific sounds it has. The Gamma checks all those boxes for me, making it incredibly easy to sketch out ideas by playing chords and leads simultaneously. In other words: I'd probably never have made this song without this specific tool. It's also worth noting that this instrument is designed to sound good all the time: you can select the scale you want, and all chords and notes will only play notes that fit that scale. This instrument also has various effects and chord modes which can be used with the thumbsticks (everything is customizable in the menu). During the performance I've used the presets "Dream" and "Fade". This little synth is made by a company called "this.is.NOISE inc.". It's a tiny company (5 employees) from Canada founded in 2020. The Gamma is their first instrument - before that they made MIDI controllers and other MIDI hardware (very unique ones). Shoutout to Zach, the co-founder who reached out to me and also took a huge role in creating this sick instrument as the main hardware designer. 👽 Check out their site and story: https://thisisnoiseinc.com/pages/this... 👽...and more about the Gamma: https://thisisnoiseinc.com/pages/gamma Full disclosure: this.is.NOISE inc. reached out and sent this synth to me. No money was exchanged, and I've had complete creative freedom with the music and with the written text as well. Now the usual techy stuff for fellow musicians and enthusiasts: Signal chain: 〰️ Gamma Mini Synth 〰️ iRig USB audio interface 〰️ iPhone 14 with Loopy Pro Drum machine: 〰️ Hammerhead by Bram Bos Effects used inside Loopy: Synth: 〰️ J_NO chorus by Adam Bell (used for the loops and for the overlay melodies) (🔥free) 〰️ Eventide Blackhole reverb (used for the loops and for the overlay melodies) 〰️ Flux Mini 2 by Caelum Audio (only used for the loops) (🔥free) Drums: 〰️ Magic Dice by Baby Audio (🔥free) 〰️ RoughRider 3 by AudioDamage (🔥free) 〰️ Room Reverb by ElephantDSP (🔥free) 〰️ BA-1 FX strip by Baby Audio (🔥also free) - I've used this for the filter effect About the Flux Mini usage: I've used it for sidechaining. The Hammerhead drum machine was set up with two instances: one was sending MIDI notes, the other was playing them. For the Flux Mini I've used the sent MIDI notes to trigger the envelope, creating a pumping vibe and letting the drum stand out more. Fun fact: This plush is from IKEA's SAGOSKATT collection. Every year, IKEA has kids around the world submit drawings of their "dream soft toy," and a handful of winning designs get turned into real plush toys. Everything was performed live in Loopy Pro with all the natural AI-free imperfections that come with a hands-on session. Recorded with a Sony RX100 mk4 and edited in DaVinci Resolve. #GammaMiniSynth #loopypro #ambientdub #ambientmusic #iosmusicproduction #livelooping #synthmusic
