Join me on this flight from Cagliari to Ancona with the Spanish low-cost airline Volotea, onboard one of their Boeing 717s. On this flight I had a seat at one of the last rows of the airplane, meaning there was not only a good view of the wing, but also a very good view of the engine - not to mention the engine sound! A nice late afternoon flight with a fairly light load factor and perfect flying conditions, and Volotea made a better impression this time compared to my flight to Cagliari three days earlier: while I still think the lack of seat pockets is annoying and the menu prices are a bit high, the crew on this flight was friendlier and the BOB croissant was better than the sandwiches I had on the outbound flight. The approach into AOI on the other hand was kind of interesting: we were placed in a holding pattern and had to circle over the Adriatic Sea three times, which is unusual at such a small airport. Turns out there was a Blue Panorama 737-400 (operated by Air Horizont), registration 9H-GTC which made an emergency landing in Ancona due to a cracked windshield - I'm assuming this was the reason why we were placed in a holding pattern; that the authorities took the decision to momentarily close the airport so that they could concentrate on that airplane. I hope you enjoy the video; comments are welcome, also don't forget to like & subscribe.
