Can one tiny island save an entire country? 170 participants. Ten map rules. Only one left. Watch the globe change as coastlines, invisible lines and surprising islands decide who stays — and who gets deleted. Find your country and tell us which rule caught it! 00:00 Can Alaska save the USA? 00:52 The coastline test 01:40 The equator 02:11 Double trouble: the tropics 02:53 The southern trap 03:27 Alaska returns 04:01 The Greenwich trap 04:30 The eastern trap 05:15 Size matters 05:41 The final sweep 06:13 Last country standing HOW THE GAME WORKS This is a geography elimination game with 170 participants represented in this map, not all sovereign states. The rules and their order are chosen for the game. Results are calculated from the map data; the winner is not a prediction of real-world survival or national strength. Tests include the disconnected land polygons assigned to each participant. Separately mapped dependencies are not automatically combined with their sovereign state. Small states and islands absent from the roster do not take part. Map resolution and territorial grouping affect results. Antarctica is not a contestant. The area round uses approximate spherical area of these map polygons, not official national area statistics. The final line sweeps south until only one country remains untouched. Once eliminated, a country stays out. Alaska's Aleutian Islands cross the 180th meridian, so some US land has eastern longitude. That saves the USA from the western-only rule. This is about geographic longitude, not time zones or the International Date Line. Source: State of Alaska — https://www.alaska.gov/Kids/learn/abo...
