(about 11 min) On a little country farm with a red barn lived a hardworking Little Red Hen and her three chicks. One day she finds a grain of wheat. "Who will help me plant the wheat?" "Not I!" says the sleepy Cat — he needs a nap in the sun. "Not I!" says the lazy Dog — he wants to roll in the shade. "Not I!" says the chatty Duck — she is off to splash in the pond. "Then I will do it myself!" Watering, cutting the golden wheat, carrying it up the hill to the windmill and grinding it into flour — every time, the excuses get sillier, and every time the hen does it all alone. That night she kneads the dough and bakes bread until morning, while her chicks fall asleep waiting for her. When the smell of fresh bread drifts across the farm, the three friends come running. "I will eat it!" "Me too!" "Me too, me too!" But then they see the hen's sore, swollen feet, her tired red eyes, and the three chicks curled up asleep by the oven. Everyone waits for her to say, "Then I will eat it myself!" Instead she smiles. "Come, let's eat together. But next year… let's do it together, okay?" Next spring, before the sun is even up, someone knocks on the red barn door — the Cat, the Dog and the Duck, carrying shovels and buckets. "Who will plant the wheat? Me! Me! Me!"
