State Spotlight Series (2 of 2): Ohio's Approach to Braille Accessibility in State Assessments

NCADEMI in partnership with the OCALI AT&AEM Center presents part 2 of a two-part webinar series highlighting how two states (Florida and Ohio) are improving braille accessibility in statewide assessments in relation to the Braille Accessibility in State Assessments Guide. Recently, Ohio’s efforts to ensure braille accessibility in state assessments centered on providing equitable access for students who are blind or have low vision, particularly those participating in the Alternate Assessment for Students with the Most Significant Cognitive Disabilities. To address this need, the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (DEW) developed a comprehensive process for creating tactile graphics that incorporates both content review and fairness considerations. The presentation will outline this process through a detailed timeline and highlight the collaboration among the Ohio DEW, local education agencies, OCALI, and test and print vendors.
