Travel Vlog Documentary, Mirissa Sri Lanka. 🇱🇰 This is the Sri Lanka tourists dream of. Golden beaches, palm trees, turquoise water, Coconut Tree Hill, fresh fish and a romantic dinner by the Indian Ocean. But in Mirissa, we went just five minutes beyond the postcard — and discovered a completely different side of Sri Lanka. After our train journey from Colombo, we explore the famous South Coast and see why Mirissa became a tourist hotspot. But then we leave the beach behind and enter a real Sri Lankan village, where locals show us their family homes, which they mostly own. We meet several generations living together, hear stories of monkeys raiding homes, come face-to-face with a snake, and discover a side of everyday Sri Lankan life most tourists never see. And then we return to the beach. Because behind the sunset dinners and fresh fish lies a real fishing economy. We head to the harbour to meet the fishermen bringing in the catch — and discover that for many of them, no catch means no income. We even encounter baby turtles and learn about the conservation work protecting them. And after our monk in Colombo explained that chasing pleasure can create craving and suffering, we look at this beach paradise a little differently.
