Bloody Tennis Director on That Cat Scene and Why He Did It

Bloody Tennis arrives on ‪@shudder‬ September 25. Director Nikias Chryssos joins The Fear Review to talk about the film's escalating brutality, the body-horror sound design that makes even the smallest injuries uncomfortable, and yes that cat scene. Chryssos explains why the violence starts grounded before becoming increasingly nightmarish, how seemingly simple things like an injured toe and leeches became some of the film's most uncomfortable moments, and why Maria may actually be the one pulling the strings at the academy. He also talks about creating the film's oppressive heat and isolated environment and the larger question at the center of Sophie's story: how much are you willing to sacrifice to become great? We also get into the line between ambition and destruction, how Chryssos relates that competition to his own experience as a filmmaker, and why he deliberately played with the audience's emotions during one particularly scene. And, for anyone worried: the cat is fine. Read our Bloody Tennis review: https://thefearreview.com/reviews/blo...
