The Pentateuch is the foundation of the Bible’s story, setting out God’s purposes for the world, his covenant people, and his plan of redemption fulfilled in Christ. In this opening lecture, we introduce the Pentateuch as a whole, examining its authorship, major themes, and place in God’s unfolding revelation. We then examine Genesis 1–2 in detail, where we encounter the God who creates by his word, who orders the world for life, and who makes humanity in his image for relationship with him. These chapters not only reveal God’s design for creation, but also point forward to Christ, the one through whom and for whom all things were made.
