We're kicking off our spooky Halloween beer reviews with Elysian Brewing's Great Pumpkin Imperial Pumpkin Ale, an 8.4% ABV seasonal brew loaded with pumpkin and traditional pumpkin-pie spices. This one's a beauty in the glass: rich pumpkin-orange color, a creamy head, and an unmistakable seasonal aroma. But how does it actually taste? We put Great Pumpkin through our temperature progression, starting at 48.6°F, moving to 55.4°F, and finishing around 65.8°F to find out how the aroma, spice profile, and mouthfeel change as the beer warms. The result? A well-crafted beer with a spice package that definitely isn't for everyone.
